What Type of Training is Required to Perform Mobile Auto Glass Repair?

The educational requirements for an automotive glass technician career include a high school diploma and a certificate in automotive glass repair and installation. Employers may not require certification and may offer internships, assistant positions, or practical training for new employees. Proper training and certification are the responsibility of the company that employs the automotive glass technician. These certifications are offered by the Automotive Glass Safety Council and several adhesive manufacturers and must be completed annually.

Auto Glass Consultants (AGC) exists to help automotive glass professionals stay up to date on all aspects of the automotive glass industry. The National Glass Association (NGA) is the country's largest trade association for the automotive glass, architectural glass, and window and door markets. Most employers are looking for auto glass technicians with formal training in the field, often through a collision repair program. To be eligible for this exam, technicians must have 3 or more years in the automotive glass industry and be AGSC-certified automotive glass technicians.
